In accelerating decarbonization and drive energy transition in Indonesia, the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), in collaboration with the GIZ Energy Programme, hosted a workshop on 15 October 2024 at Hotel Santika Premiere ICE BSD. The event, themed “The Role of Government, Private Sector, and Financial Institutions in Accelerating Decarbonization of the Industrial Sector in Indonesia,” brought together key stakeholders to strategize on decarbonizing the industrial sector through coordinated efforts.

The workshop delved into various aspects of decarbonization, outlining government strategies to reduce industrial emissions, exploring existing policies designed to bolster renewable energy growth, and highlighting success stories from the private sector’s decarbonization efforts. Financial institutions presented financing mechanisms tailored for green initiatives, while private sector representatives shared the challenges they face in developing renewable energy projects. The collaborative environment fostered meaningful dialogue, with all participants contributing recommendations to overcome existing hurdles and ensure a balanced approach to achieving Net Zero Emissions without compromising economic growth.

Alfred Sirait, a representative speaker from the Indonesia Energy Transition Joint Office (RUMAH PATEN), took the stage to emphasize the critical role of existing regulations in accelerating energy transition and decarbonization within the industrial sector. He underscored how leveraging these regulations and existing market conditions could unlock significant opportunities to accelerate the transformation.

Participants who joined this workshop would have a deeper understanding of regulatory frameworks that support renewable energy and energy efficiency advancements in Indonesia. Additionally, the workshop featured knowledge-sharing sessions, offering insights from the private sector on navigating regulatory landscapes to expedite industrial decarbonization. This multifaceted discussion underscored the necessity of aligning government policies, industry practices, and financial support to create a sustainable and greener industrial future.
